Visualising the search for meaning

Independent films, documentary series and sensory storytelling from Indonesia to the world.

The Sambal Chronicles is an 18-episode documentary series that takes viewers across the Indonesian archipelago, with sambal as the glue that holds the nation together. In a country with more than seven hundred languages, people speak a shared language of heat. Sambal is both identity and entertainment.

The series follows cooks, farmers, fishermen, adat elders, and keepers of memory as they reveal how a spoonful of sambal carries the traces of migration, ways of life, ecology, and ritual.

It is a sensory journey across Indonesia: an exploration of the meaning behind every ingredient and a way to experience a complex nation through its simplest condiment.

Ode to Healing is a limited series about a woman’s journey of growth through her thirties: a return to herself, a shedding of the layers that were never hers, and the carving of a life she was always meant to live.

The series invites viewers to follow her life across Bali, Southeast Asia, and Belgium.

The Kain Chronicles traces the stories woven into Indonesia’s cloth. Long before Dutch colonisation, the archipelago already spoke a rich language of fashion, status, and social meaning—from the lives of the rakyat to the splendour of the many sultanates and royal palaces.

Silk, gold thread, and natural dyes create patterns that carry symbolism, history, and rules of occasion: when a cloth is worn, by whom, and for what purpose. The series follows the hands that dye and weave each piece, as well as the families, ceremonies, and landscapes that give every motif its meaning.

Crossing islands and generations, the series looks beyond textiles as adornment to reveal kain as archive, inheritance, and a quietly radical record of Indonesian people that refuses to be forgotten.

Ballingschap is a film honouring one of the visionaries behind Indonesian independence: a founding father who lived under many names, never became a father himself, and left as his legacy the country that would become home to hundreds of millions of his fellow Indonesians.

It explores his sacrifices in love and in life, as well as his unyielding vision of a nation long before it came into being.

An Indonesian revolutionary thinker, his life unfolded through exile, disguise, and a fierce belief in freedom. Drawing on the textures of his writing and the political storms of his era, the film follows a man repeatedly pushed beyond the borders of his homeland and asks what it costs to imagine a country before it exists.
